Free Antivirus Software

Phoenix IT Support recommends using Microsoft Forefront for UC Davis funded/owned computers and will install it for you upon request.

For personal and non university owned computers, Phoenix IT Support requires that Microsoft Security Essentials, a free software from Microsoft is installed before it can be connected to any departmental wireless or wired network. Microsoft Security Essentials can be downloaded here.

If you have a Mac computer, you can get Sophos Antivirus for free from software.ucdavis.edu once you log in with your campus Kerberos ID.

Other Antivirus software is around for a fee and for free on the internet and is sometimes acceptable to be had on personal computers, however these programs will have to be inspected on a case by case basis by PITS before they be used on a personal computer on a department network. If you wish to use your own Antivirus software while on the departmental networks, please submit a ticket to IT Support.
